LCP launches its Canadian Embassy-funded project promoting gender and development in cities

By LCP Secretariat
October 4, 2019 - Davao City

The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) recently held its 69th National Executive Board (NEB) meeting last 27 September 2019 at the Dusit D2 Hotel in Davao City. Led by LCP National Chairperson and Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and LCP National President and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the NEB meeting gathered city mayors to provide them with updates on the activities of the LCP through its Secretariat.

During the same event, LCP formally launched its project titled “Promoting gender and development (GAD) advocacy in Philippine cities through establishment and strengthening of GAD Focal Point Systems (GFPS).” Funded by the Embassy of Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), the 2-year project aims to improve the capacity of Philippine cities to better implement policies that encourage better outcomes for women and girls by generating evidence and best practices to support the creation of GFPS.

The implementation of LCP’s project on GFPS officially commenced last August 2019 and will end on December 2020. To aid LCP in its data gathering for the project, a survey tool will be disseminated to all 145 cities. Main outputs of the project is the development of an online database where cities, various institutions and stakeholders can access relevant data on gender to which they can use to complement their own activities. Moreover, the project will also develop a knowledge product that will document and showcase Philippine cities’ GAD-related practices. The knowledge product aims to assist cities in mainstreaming GAD to make their local governments gender responsive.
