Commit to addressing mobility and health with City for Clean Air Certification

With rapid urbanization,  cities are encouraged to make informed development decisions that will lead to healthy air for their citizens. To date, outdoor air pollution is responsible for 1 in 8 of total global deaths, causing more than 3 million premature deaths worldwide every year. In the Philippines transport contributes to over half of emissions. To address this, Clean Air Asia, an international non-governmental organization, is currently assisting cities through its “Cities for Clean Air Certification” for the achievement of better air quality, as well as developing healthier and more liveable cities in Asia.

"Cities for Clean Air Certification” aims to encourage cities to commit to take action on addressing air quality concerns – recognizing "innovative and impactful, voluntary action towards better air quality."A Certified City for Clean Air will be internationally recognized, and will have increased opportunities for knowledge sharing, as well as new collaborations with both public and private stakeholders. We take pride that the cities of Baguio, Santa Rosa, and Iloilo were chosen as pilot areas and have already completed the commitment phase by having their Mayors sign and submit an Official Letter of Commitment, assign a focal person, and form a Certification Team through this initiative. All cities in the Philippines are now welcome dto take part and become a City for Clean Air!  There will be an opportunity to sign-up your city at the ASEAN Mayors Forum, Breakout Session 5: Transitioning Cities to Low Emission Development.
